When it comes to planning a wedding, the date and more specifically the season you choose plays a major role in shaping everything from the venue vibe to your floral choices. Each season has its own unique charm (and challenges), so it’s worth considering how the time of year might affect your big day.

Here’s a breakdown of things to consider for every season to ensure your wedding is as stunning and seamless as possible.

Spring Weddings

Spring is the season of fresh blooms, pastel tones, and new beginnings - perfect for a wedding. But this dreamy season does come with its quirks.

  1. Unpredictable Weather

Spring showers are no joke. Make sure your venue has a solid indoor option or provides cover in case the weather turns. Bonus: a clear tent can add a romantic touch while keeping your guests dry.

  1. Seasonal Allergies

If you or your guests are prone to allergies, consider low-pollen flowers for your décor and have tissues or allergy remedies on hand. Be prepared for some sniffling or watery eyes, that aren't just from how cute your ceremony is.

  1. Fresh Florals

Take advantage of the season’s abundant flowers. Peonies, tulips, and daffodils are not only stunning but also budget-friendly when in season. We can't stress enough that talking to your florist is key in getting the best florals for your season - worry less about specific type of flower and more about the vibes.

  1. Soft Color Palettes

Spring weddings lend themselves to dreamy pastel shades... think blush, lavender, or mint. They work beautifully for bridesmaid dresses, linens, and floral arrangements.

  1. Potential "Off-season" Pricing

Some vendors consider early spring timing to still be "off-season" so you may find lowered pricing to refect the slower time period.

  1. Potential Flexibility

Having a wedding outside of peak-season has the benefit of a larger vendor pool to choose from, as well as increasing the likelihood that all your besties will be available to attend the big day.

Summer Weddings

Ah, summer: the season of sunshine, long days, and outdoor celebrations. If you’ve always dreamed of saying “I do” under clear blue skies, this could be your time.

  1. Staying Cool

Summer heat can be relentless. Provide shaded areas, fans, or even handheld misters for guests, especially during outdoor ceremonies. Signature cocktails or popsicle bars can help keep everyone refreshed. If a greenhouse is your dream - avoid the summer months to avoid baking your guests!

  1. Peak Wedding Season

Remember that summer is the most popular time for weddings, so book your vendors early to avoid disappointment (and higher prices).

  1. Seasonal Menus

Take advantage of summer’s bounty by incorporating fresh fruits, vibrant salads, and grilled entrees into your menu. Summer is also the perfect excuse for fun food experiences - think BBQ, garden parties, or an ice cream or dessert truck.

  1. Later Sunsets

With longer days, you’ll have more time for golden hour photos. Plan your ceremony start time accordingly to take full advantage of that dreamy light.

  1. Bugs...

With warmer weather, we also welcome our insect friends (or foes). While you can almost bet on a successful outdoor ceremony, prepare to have some unwanted guests in attendance. A good tip is to include repelant candles into your outdoor design, or supply some good old fashioned bug spray in the bathrooms for guests to layer it on!

  1. Lavish Outdoor Venues

Summer can afford you the luxury of some epic, alternative outdoor venues. This is truly the season to find a unique location that speaks to you as a couple - wineries, lake side cottages, private beach hideaways, possibilities are endless!

Fall Weddings

Fall weddings are a vibe. With crisp air, stunning foliage, and moody tones, this season offers the perfect backdrop for cozy, romantic celebrations.

  1. Rich Color Palettes

Think jewel tones like emerald, burgundy, and navy or warm earthy hues like gold, rust, mustard, and terracotta. These colours work beautifully in florals, stationery, and décor.

  1. Layered Looks

The weather can be unpredictable, especially in late fall, so think about layering. Consider cozy blankets for guests or chic wraps for the bridal party.

  1. Seasonal Décor

Take inspiration from autumn itself: incorporate seasonal veggies, leaves, or dried florals into your centerpieces. Candles and lanterns also add to the cozy vibe.

  1. Comfort Food

Fall is all about comfort, so lean into seasonal dishes like butternut squash soup, apple tarts, or mini pumpkin pies. A hot cider or spiked coffee bar is always a hit.

  1. Cooler Nights

With cooler nights, you can keep the dance floor bumping longer without over heating! Bonus if you have an outdoor/indoor style venue to accomodate a fire dance floor and a literal outdoor fire pit moment... hello s'mores.

  1. See Ya Later Bugs

The change of season is the mark of saying goodbye to our little mosquito friends (or at least if you're in southern ontario like me). This is a huge bonus when you consider guest experience.

Winter Weddings

Winter weddings are all about elegance and intimacy. From snow-dusted backdrops to cozy candlelit receptions, this season can be downright magical—if you plan accordingly.

  1. Weather Woes

Winter weather can be unpredictable. Make sure you (and your guests) have a plan for snow, ice, or freezing rain. Venues with onsite accommodations or nearby hotels are a huge plus.

  1. Timeless Glamour

Lean into the season’s natural elegance with metallic accents, deep colors, and lots of candles or twinkle lights. A fur wrap or velvet tux adds a stylish seasonal touch.

  1. Holiday Overlaps

Be mindful of holidays when picking your date. While they can make travel tricky, they also create an opportunity for a themed wedding—hello, New Year’s Eve sparkler send-off! Maybe you're handing out pitty invites and other commitments allow you to thin out the heard - so positive or negative? That's up to you.

  1. Winter-Friendly Florals

Roses, amaryllis, and greenery like pine and eucalyptus are perfect for winter. Add berries or frosted pinecones for a festive touch. BUT, beware florals don't like super cold temperatures - so schedule any outdoor photography moments accordingly!

  1. Off-Season Pricing

Vendors tend to have more availability and flexibility when it comes to pricing during the winter! If you are dreaming of a big bash - maybe a winter wedding will allow you to stretch your budget a little further.

  1. Be Different

A winter wedding is the perfect opportunity to create a intimate and unique day. Since winter weddings by nature are not as common as the other seasons, you will find it easy to stand out from friends who've already said there "i do's".
